Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)

Storage designed around the demand.

Assess battery storage against real operating needs: peak management, solar self-consumption, resilience, time-of-use exposure and integration with site loads, controls and generation.

What an engagement can cover

  • Interval-load, tariff, outage and use-case assessment
  • Power and energy sizing with operating-window assumptions
  • Peak shaving, solar shifting, resilience and backup scenarios
  • Efficiency, degradation, cycling and lifecycle-economics modelling
  • Controls, EMS, protection, safety and operating-strategy integration

Start with the right information.

Start with interval load data where available, electricity bills, tariff structure, solar generation or export data, outage history, critical loads and the operational problem the battery is expected to solve.

A clear engagement process

  1. Define the BESS use case and the value streams that can be measured.
  2. Model power, energy, cycling, efficiency, degradation and lifecycle assumptions against the site profile.
  3. Develop an integration and operating strategy covering controls, protection, safety and practical next steps.

Before we begin

Is battery storage economically viable for every facility?

No. Economics depend on the load profile, tariff, demand peaks, solar-surplus value, outage cost, cycling frequency, efficiency, degradation, financing and the specific use case.

How do you decide the BESS size?

Battery power and energy capacity should be derived from the target use case and interval data, not from a standard solar-to-battery ratio. Different objectives can require very different power and duration.

Can BESS work with rooftop solar?

Yes. Storage can be assessed for solar self-consumption, time shifting, peak management or resilience, but the value depends on when solar is generated and when the site consumes electricity.

Is backup the same as peak-shaving storage?

No. Backup requires defined critical loads, power, duration and transfer behaviour. A system designed mainly for peak shaving may not provide the backup performance a facility expects.
